Across many Romantic cities in Italy and further north, starting
in the 1990s, a fascinating tradition has prospered for young
couples newly wed to have decorative padlocks engraved for them
and to lock these padlocks on the railings of a bridge, throwing
the key into a river to evoke luck. This bridge is across a small
stream that is part of the river complex in Riga, Latvia
